On April 12, 2008, in New York, majestic celebrations of the anniversaries of His Beatitude Lubomyr took place: his 75th birthday and the 50th anniversary of his priestly ordination. This celebration was different from others because of the gift for the jubilee. The organizers decided that all of the funds collected would be passed to His Beatitude Lubomyr as a gift of love which will be used for the completion of the construction of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv.
Approximately 200 faithful and guests gathered together in the parish hall of the Church of Saint George of the UGCC in New York. Mykola Haliv, head of the organizing committee for the celebrations in New York, in his speech recalled the deep and close connection of His Beatitude Lubomyr with the community in this city. “We witnessed his ordination. We prayed together at his first Divine Liturgy in our Church of Saint George. And today we celebrate the golden anniversary of his priestly ministry,” said Mr. Haliv.
Then a festive speech was delivered by the Most Rev. Bishop Paul (Chomnyckyj), Eparch of Stamford. After this, all those present had the chance to watch a documentary film about the building of the Patriarchal Cathedral, “The Cathedral joins all.” The festive evening finished with the artistic program performed by the duet Pysanka. It was declared at the completion of the evening that 125 thousand dollars was collected as a gift for His Beatitude Lubomyr for the Patriarchal Cathedral.
