New York - On April 12, 2008, a majestic celebration of the anniversaries of His Beatitude Lubomyr will be held in New York: his 75th birthday and the 50th anniversary of his priestly ordination. The particularities of this celebration will be that it is organized and the participants there will be many of those who personally know the Head of the UGCC, whether from school, or as fellow members of Plast (the Ukrainian scouts), or as a pastor.
This feast will be different from others also because of the gift for the jubilarian. The organizers decided that all the money collected will be passed to His Beatitude Lubomyr as a gift of love which will be used for the completion of the construction of the Cathedral in Kyiv. “Let's bow to our Patriarch Lubomyr in connection with his 75th anniversary of birth and 50th anniversary of priestly activity, and at the same time we will stretch our generous hands and let's help him complete the historical building of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in the capital of Ukraine. This great matter of his deserves our ‘deep pockets', and also sincerest prayers, because the issue is an immortal idea which is constantly present in the Church of Christ – that all may be one”. So wrote Mykola Haliv, chairman of the organizing committee for the celebration in New York, on the pages of “Svoboda”.
Bishop Bohdan (Dzurakh), Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Kyiv, and Mrs. Myroslava Rozdol'ska, head of the Diaspora Department of the Informational-Financial Support of the Construction of the Patriarchal Center, discussed the celebration of the jubilee of His Beatitude Lubomyr with members of the organizing committee at a recent meeting. The meeting was held at the parish building of the Church of Saint George in New York. During the dialog the sides exchanged ideas about the festive evening and discussed its key moments. Much attention was paid to informing the organizing committee about the status and prospects of finishing the construction of the Patriarchal Cathedral.
