Chicago, Nov. 29, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Former US Congressman Henry Hyde, who for years led pro-life forces on Capitol Hill, died on November 29 at the age of 83.
A devout Catholic, the Illinois Republican lawmaker gained influence steadily over his 32-year career in Congress. He is best known for his leading role in the impeachment of President Bill Clinton in 1998, and for the legislation that bears his name-- the Hyde Amendment-- barring federal funding for abortions.
