VATICAN CITY, AUG. 17, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI will visit the Shrine of Mariazell in Austria during a Sept. 7-9 apostolic trip that will include a tribute to the victims of the Holocaust.
The trip marks the 850th anniversary of the foundation of the Shrine of Mariazell.
Friday, Sept. 7
9:30 a.m. -- Departure from Rome's Ciampino Airport
11:15 a.m. -- Arrival at the Vienna International Airport. There will be a welcome ceremony and the Pope will give an address.
Noon -- Trip in automobile from the airport to the Am Hof plaza of Vienna.
12:45 p.m. -- Arrival to the Am Hof plaza and prayer before the Mariansaule. The Holy Father will give a greeting.
1:35 p.m. -- Tribute to the monument for the Austrian victims of the Holocaust in the Juden Platz in Vienna.
1:50 p.m. -- Arrival at the apostolic nunciature in Vienna.
5:30 p.m. -- Arrival at the Hofburg de Wien Palace to make a courtesy visit to the president of Austria. After the meeting with the president, the Pope will meet government officials and the diplomatic corps in the reception hall of the palace and give a discourse.
7 p.m. -- Arrival at the apostolic nunciature in Vienna where the Pontiff will spend the night.
Saturday, Sept. 8
9:45 a.m. -- Arrival by helicopter to the Shrine of Mariazell.
10:30 a.m. -- Open-air Mass for the 850th anniversary of the foundation of the Shrine of Mariazell, to be held in front of the basilica. The Holy Father will give the homily.
1:30 p.m. -- Lunch with the bishops of the episcopal conference of Austria and with the cardinals and bishops of the papal entourage in the pontifical residence of Mariazell.
4:40 p.m. -- After lunch, the Holy Father will walk from the pontifical residence to the basilica of Mariazell.
4:45 p.m. -- Marian vespers with priests, religious, deacons and seminarians in the basilica of Marizell. The Holy Father will give an address.
6 p.m. -- The Pope plans to then return to Vienna by helicopter, a trip that will last until 7:30 p.m. He will head directly to the apostolic nunciature where he will spend the night.
Sunday, Sept. 9
9:30 a.m. -- Arrival at the palace of the archbishop of Vienna
9:45 a.m. -- Procession from the palace of the archbishop to the Cathedral of St. Stephen of Vienna.
10 a.m. -- Holy Mass in the cathedral of St. Stephan in Vienna.
Noon -- Praying of the Angelus in the plaza of St. Stephen in Vienna. The Holy Father will give an address.
12:15 p.m. -- The Pope will walk to the palace of the archbishop of Vienna, where he will eat lunch.
2 p.m. -- Benedict XVI will travel from the palace of the archbishop to the apostolic nunciature of Vienna.
4:30 p.m. -- Visit to the Abbey of Hailigenkreuz and an address from the Holy Father.
5:30 p.m. -- Arrival at the Wiener Konzerthaus for an encounter with volunteers. The Pope will give an address.
7:15 p.m. -- Farewell ceremony at the Vienna International Airport. The Holy Father will give departing words.
7:45 p.m. -- Benedict XVI to depart for Rome.
9:30 p.m. -- Arrival at the Roman Ciampino Airport.
