BEIRUT, Lebanon, JULY 25, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Members of a Spanish Catholic organization distributed 15 tons of toys to needy children in the Middle East.
The Messengers of Peace Association, a nongovernmental organization started by Father Ángel García, took the toys to hospitals, orphanages, schools in refugee camps, and various other parts of the country, the Fides news agency reported.
Father García said: "Children are the most innocent victims of any war or conflict and they are the ones who suffer most and are most forgotten.
"Our campaign aimed at offering them a toy to help them for a moment forget the drama of the conflict and many personal tragedies."
Upon his return, Father García also brought with him two 5-year-old children in need of special medical care.
One of the children, Ali, had both legs and part of one arm amputated because of a rare disease. The other child, Ammina, has a rare case of blood circulation deficiency.
Both children, accompanied by their mothers, will receive treatment in Madrid hospitals.
Over the past five years the Messengers of Peace Association has brought more than 500 children from Iraq and others from Latin American countries to Spain for medical treatment, while also distributing toys.
