ROME, JULY 10, 2007 (Zenit.org).- The Vatican has awarded the highest medal for work in health care to Bishop Thomas Williams, vicar apostolic of the Northern District in England.
Cardinal Javier Lozano Barragán, president of the Pontifical Council for Health Care, awarded the Good Samaritan medal to Bishop Williams, auxiliary bishop of Liverpool, in recognition of his work as chair of the Catholics in Health Care Group.
The medal of the Good Samaritan is given by the pontifical council to those who stand out for their care and love for the sick.
Bishop Williams' organization, Catholics in Health Care, is a Web-based resource designed to help Catholics in England and Wales working in health and social care fields to network with others, access resources and support, and live out their vocation as skilled, effective and committed care workers.
Two guides, titled "Caring for the Catholic Patient," have been published by Catholics in Health Care for professionals in the field.
