VATICAN CITY, JULY 4, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Benedicto XVI greeted the Jewish athletes gathered in Rome to participate in the European Maccabi Games.
The Pope greeted the young athletes today at the end of the general audience.
The games began today and will continue till July 12. Some 1,000 athletes from Europe, North America, Australia and Israel are participating.
The Holy Father offered "a cordial greeting" to the athletes and organizers, praying that "God covers them with abundant blessings."
Representatives of the athletes then offered the Pope a jersey.
