Uzhhorod – On 16 June 2007 in southwestern Ukrainian Uzhhorod, leaders of the Roman and Greek Catholic eparchies and seminaries of Ukraine and neighboring countries, representatives of Orthodox and other Christian churches, and Jews and Muslims said a joint prayer to draw public attention to environmental protection. Their simultaneous address to God was said in Church-Slavonic, Hungarian, and Arabic.
Also, the religious representatives participated in the international conference “The church and the environment: European experience and Ukrainian prospects,” which was held at the Greek Catholic Academy of Blessed Martyr Teodor Romzha.
Bishop Milan Sasik of the Mukachevo Greek Catholic Eparchy called upon ministers of various religions to unite in joint prayers. However, he noted that it is problematic to encourage Orthodox and Catholic priests to work together.
