VATICAN CITY, SEP 30, 1998 (VIS) - Made public this afternoon was the talk given by Cardinal Achille Silvestrini, prefect of the Congregation for Oriental Churches, at the opening session of the congregation's plenary assembly on September 29. The plenary concludes October 2.
The cardinal addressed the following topics: "The
Role and Meaning of Catholic Oriental Churches"; "The Holy See and Catholic
Oriental Churches"; "The Context of the Current Plenary"; "Oriental Churches
and the Commitment to Evangelization" and "The Latin Church must know and
Orientals." He also spoke on "The Formation of Oriental Clergy: A Priority"; "The 'sui iuris' Churches and the Holy See"; "Re-birth of Monastic Life" and "Jurisdiction over the Latins."
