The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of St. Andrew in Parma, Ohio, celebrated the half-century anniversary of its founding.

According to the church’s Facebook page, the celebrations took place on October 7-8.

“50 years have passed since the day when the cornerstone was laid and consecrated in the basis of the structure of the temple of the UGCC dedicated to St. Andrew the First Called, where the name of the Lord has been praised for half a century and the Holy Gospel has been preached for the salvation of souls,” reads the message of the church administration.

The ceremony was attended by the clergy of various denominations and parishioners. In addition to delicious Ukrainian dishes, the guests enjoyed the performance of St Andrew church choir, the poetry recitation performed by Maria Petryna and Bohdan Harmatiy and the performance of the group "Accord".

In his speech Fr Igor Kasiyan, the parish rector, congratulated the audience on the jubilee of the church and extended his sincere gratitude for the significant contribution to the life of the church.

In addition, Martha Lyshynetska, Chair of the Ukrainian Allied Organizations, congratulated the parish on the occasion of the 50th anniversary, and handed over a letter of gratitude “For outstanding and conscientious work for the good of the Ukrainian Church and community.”

Teachings of Christ

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God." (John 3:16-18 ESV)

Exaltation of the Cross

Save Your people, O Lord, and bless Your inheritance; * grant victory to Your Church over her enemies * and protect Your commonwealth by Your Cross. (Troparion - Tone 1)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Willingly lifted up on the Cross, O Christ God, * bestow Your compassions upon the new commonwealth that bears Your name. * By your power grant joy to Your Church, * granting her victory over her enemies. * May she have your Cross as the weapon of peace * and the invincible ensign of victory. (Kontakion - Tone 4)

The Church celebrates the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross on September 14th.

Random Proverb

"My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights." (Proverbs 3:11,12 ESV)

Pray Without Ceasing

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Wisdom from the Church Fathers

Adam, God's first-formed man, transgressed: could He [God] not at once have brought death upon him? But see what the Lord does, in His great love towards man. He casts him out from Paradise, for because of sin he was unworthy to live there; but He puts him to dwell over against Paradise: that seeing whence he had fallen, and from what and into what a state he was brought down, he might afterwards be saved by repentance.
