Pope pleads for help for Iraqi Christians

CWNews.com - At his Angelus audience on Sunday, February 28, Pope Benedict XVI repeated his plea for the safety of Christians in Iraq. The Pope also offers his prayerful condolences to Chilean earthquake victims and encouraged international donors to help the survivors.

"With great sadness did I learn the tragic news of the killing of a number of Christians in the city of Mosul, and with great concern have I followed other episodes of violence committed against defenseless people of various religious confessions in the martyred land of Iraq," the Pope said. He issued an appeal to Iraqi government leaders to "make every effort to restore security to the population, in particular to the most vulnerable religious minorities," and asked other world leaders to help Iraq establish "a future of reconciliation and peace."

Nativity of the Mother of God

Your nativity, O Virgin Mother of God, heralded joy to the universe; for from you rose the Sun of Righteousness, Christ our God. He redeemed us from the curse, He gave the blessing, and by trampling Death, He gave us everlasting life.

Wisdom from the Church Fathers

If God is slow in answering your request, and you ask but do not promptly receive anything, do not be upset, for you are not wiser than God. When you remain as you were before, without anything happening, it is either because your behaviour is not worthy of your request, or because the paths in which your heart was travelling were far removed from the aim of your prayer, or because your interior condition is far too childish, when compared with the magnitude of the thing for which you have asked.
