Organized violence driving Iraqi Christians out of Mosul
Tuesday, 16 February 2010 17:54
CWNNews.com - In Mosul, Iraq, two Christian merchants have been killed this week, one wounded, and a fourth taken hostage by kidnappers demanding a heavy ransom. The violence against the Christian minority, carried out by organized armed gangs, continues unabated. Iraqi Christians have complained repeatedly about the failure of police to respond to the campaign of violence and intimidation. The attacks are having the desired effect: driving more and more Christians out of Mosul.

Nativity of the Mother of God
Your nativity, O Virgin Mother of God, heralded joy to the universe; for from you rose the Sun of Righteousness, Christ our God. He redeemed us from the curse, He gave the blessing, and by trampling Death, He gave us everlasting life.
Troparion for September 8th.

Wisdom from the Church Fathers
| I pray Thee, compassionate Lord, do not allow me to be condemned because of the unworthy and ungrateful manner in which I contemplate the great mysteries that Thou hast revealed to Thy saints and through them to me, a sinner and Thy unworthy servant. For see, Lord, Thy servant stands before Thee, idle in everything, speechless, as one who is dead; and I do not dare to say anything more or to presumptuously contemplate further. But as always I fall down before Thee, crying from the depths of my soul. . . . St. Peter of Damascus |
