‘The Divine Liturgy” by Archbishop Hilarion (Alfeyev) released on audiodisc in the USA

Crestwood, NY - The Publishing House of St. Vladimir’s Theological seminary, New York, USA, released an audiodisc with “The Divine Liturgy” by Archbishop Hilarion (Alfeyev).

“The Divine Liturgy” was composed by Archbishop Hilarion in the first decade of June 2006. It was performed for the first time at the Church of St. Nicholas in Tolmachi, Moscow, on 6 July the same year, the feast day of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. The first concert performance of several pieces took place at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire in December 2006.

The recording released by St. Vladimir’s seminary was made not in a studio or a concert hall, but at the divine service celebrated by Archbishop Hilarion (Alfeyev) at the Church of St. Nicholas on-the-Three-Hills in Moscow.

The choir of the State Tretyakov gallery conducted by the honoured artist of Russia Alexei Puzakov performed the hymns.

The album that includes twenty-six pieces was released with a booklet telling about the composition and its author, Archbishop Hilarion (Alfeyev), and the choir of the Tretyakov gallery.

Happy New Year!

O Lord, Maker of the Universe, who alone has power over the seasons and times, bless this year with your bounty. Preserve our country in safety. Keep your people in peace. Through the prayers of the Mother of God, save us.

Wisdom from the Church Fathers

Abbot Macarius was asked: "How should I pray?" The staretz answered: "There is no need to waste time with words; it is enough to hold out your hands and say: 'Lord, have mercy.'  If you are hard pressed in the struggle, say: 'Lord, save me!' He knows what is best for you, and he will have mercy on you."

Abbot Macarius, quoted in St. Gregory Palamas and Orthodox Spirituality, Meyendorff, 1974, SVS Press
